Driven by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd’s (BSP) commitment to advancing STEAM education, the SEL Young Innovators (SELYI) program was developed in partnership with Seria Energy Lab (SEL), who curated a tailored experience to reflect BSP’s vision for future-ready youths.
SEL officially kick started its second installment of SELYI with the Shell NXplorers program at Sekolah Menengah Lambak Kiri yesterday. This year’s program consists of 120 students from Year 9 and 10, representing 26 schools across Brunei Darussalam, along with 10 students from the BIBD ALAF initiative. The program created by SEL aims to nurture and empower Brunei’s youth with vital 21st-century skills including coding, programming, design thinking, 3D printing, and robotics.
The SELYI program will feature a series of dynamic and hands-on workshops until July 2025, followed by the national Robotech and Innovation (ROBIN) Competition in September 2025.
This year’s SELYI is structured around two main categories — Innovation and Robo Sumo — with new sub-categories introduced in application development and Robo Sumo 500g division respectively.
The initiative is further strengthened through the support of key partners including the Ministry of Education, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Innovation Lab, Grominda Sdn Bhd, Rumine Corporation, and Trend Massa Management and Consulting Services.
With a focus on nurturing innovation, creativity, and problem-solving, the SELYI program equips participants with future-ready skills to thrive in an increasingly complex and fast-evolving global landscape.
